Frequently asked questions for courses
Attending a class? or want to? here are some answers to your possible questions!
What time do the classes start?
We aim to start between 9:30-10am.
When do the classes finish?
Most classes finish by 4-6pm. On the more complex project courses we can end up over running which is absolutely fine.
I have never done any woodworking before can a total beginner come on your courses?
Absolutely 100% YES!
When can I book my course for?
Please get in touch, courses can be booked on any mutually suitable date, including weekdays (at the moment Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays) and Saturdays. I am currently taking bookings a couple of months in advance.
Check out The Course Calendar page for availability. Dates with nothing written in are potentially available!
Will Monty the dog be there?
Yes! Monty comes to work with David everyday so he will certainly be around to lend a helping paw! 🐶
What is Double Up!?
‘Double Up!’ is a new initiative for the one day classes, designed to allow you to book your course earlier by sharing your day with another person doing the same course as you.
Delivering courses 1:1 means that days quickly get booked up; by providing the option to ‘double up’ means that you may be able to attend your course earlier without compromising on the support and quality of the experience. We have noticed that most of our course customers expect there to be more than one person on their course, and this will also give you the opportunity to share ideas and get to know another wood worker!
Do I need to bring lunch?
No! A light lunch at the Fairground Café is included in the course fee. However if you have special dietary requirements please let me know in advance.
Due to the local pub closing, on Sunday’s and days the Café is shut we will share a takeaway pizza 🍕
How much are your courses?
Courses start at £165, each course has its own web page which tells you more about the course and it’s price.
Is there somewhere to park?
Yes, lots of parking available on-site.
Can I buy a gift card?
Yes! See here
Can I build a kitchen in a weekend with Monty assistance?
No, Monty isn’t that quick.
Can I split payment/pay in instalments?
Yes, I can provide an invoice and can agree a payment plan if necessary.
Do you actually make anything for people or are you just a woodwork school?
Designing and making bespoke furniture is my principal occupation along with my off the self ranges of furniture and homewares, there will usually be commissioned projects under construction in the workshop when you attend a class. Following the pandemic I have been catching up on classes delayed by the restrictions so it sometimes feels like that is my main line of work these days 😅
I would like to come on one of your project courses, could my partner/parent/child/friend join me to help build my project?
I’m sure we could arrange something.
I am not local and will need to stay overnight is there anywhere near I could stay?
Yes! There is a Travelodge and a Premier Inn a few minutes drive from the workshop, there are other options nearby too including pubs and air b&b’s, also a place to camp.
Do I need to bring my own tools?
No, the workshop is stuffed full of tools and there are dedicated hand tool kits for attendees to use, however you are very welcome to bring tools along with you, (especially for the sharpening and set up day).
Will there be more project courses?
Yes there will be more project courses available in the future. Developing new projects does take time, I take pride in my project designs being unique, carefully thought out and adaptable and above all useful additions to your home.
I’d like to make something in particular, get help with a project or do something not listed on your website, would that be possible?
As the old saying goes “if you don’t ask, you don’t get” I’m open to requests and small alterations to the standard projects.
Are you insured?
Yes! I also have an extensive first aid kit and a spotless safety record which I fully intend to maintain… seriously blood is a pain to clean up!
Do I keep what I make?
Absolutely yes!
I need to postpone or cancel my class
No problem, we can reschedule for another date. Refunds are also available, less a small cancellation fee, please get in touch.
I don’t drive, can I get to you using public transport?
Yes! The nearest railway station is in Andover, with regular trains from London Waterloo, Salisbury and Exeter St David’s, a bus service (Andover to Tidworth/Salisbury) picks up outside the station (no 8 every 15 minutes ish) and stops outside the Fairground.
We aim to start between 9:30-10am.
