This month a little look at a funky looking marking gauge from Veritas.

This is the Veritas Double marking gauge, it has two independently adjustable rod’s both tipped with cutting discs which makes it perfect for marking out mortices! You could also lock each rod to a different measurement when marking out hinges or locks rather than resetting for each measurement which saves a lot of time.

This is an excellent tool and is far more accurate than the traditional western style pin marking/mortice gauge. The cutting discs leave a far neater knife line than the scratch left by older style pins and the flat discs can be set flush with the sides of a chisel when marking a mortice.

These cost around £40-45 and are really a bit of a bargain!
